Every time the election cycle ramps back up, I hear Admiral Akbar's frantic warning—“It is a trap!”
Today, millions of Americans will go to the ballot box to vote in what is often called the mid-term elections. For us Christians, may we take time to read, pray, and meditate on these 10 biblical reminders.
To this world, we are a market niche, a voting block, whatever. But to our Father, we are his dear children. We couldn't be more beloved.1. The resurrection of Jesus puts yet another catastrophic election back down where it belongs: real, but so not ultimate.
I have heard the election news that matters most and it tells me Jesus will be Lord tomorrow, same as yesterday and ever after.
2. Yes, the election -- but....
What really matters is a multitude of simple Christians faithful to Jesus, to the gospel, to church.
3. My vote does count.
But my future does *not* depend on this election. This election will be utterly forgotten. I will live forever.
4. Isaiah 40 can wonderfully calm all freaking-out over this election: a drop from a bucket, dust on the scales, grasshoppers.
In this election year, we must remember that there is no political alternative to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There is no Savior besides Him!
Jesus doesn't vote. He rules.5. If Christians would remember that neither candidate is either the antichrist or the savior, we would do well.
Hope not in the election. Fueling our election year sanity: "The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will” (Prov. 21:1)
6. An election day reminder from Martin Luther: "Pray, and let God worry."
If we're more obsessed with the insanity of this election year than preoccupied with the occupied throne of heaven, let's get that fixed (Psalm 20:7).
7. God is no more, or less, sovereign in response to the results of Election Day in the USA.
Only his kingdom is unshakable (Heb. 12:28-29).
The universe is not run by a majority vote, but by the will of God.8. Sure, electing the right person matters but don't fool yourself into thinking our hope rests on an election.
Our hope is better than that!
9. There will be no high five-ing or head-hanging in heaven on election night, in response to the election.
Just providence as usual (Daniel 4:34-37).
10. Post-Election Day: "Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles” (Prov. 24:17).
Great election year verse: "If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other" (Gal. 5:15).
